Copper mines can only be used to gather one specific resource. A copper mine can only be constructed from a claimed asteroid. These cannot normally be removed from the sector where they originally reside. This is the only existing method to gather copper. Scrap metal does not contain a process to recover this metal. Copper is used in a large variety of applications throughout the galaxy.
